HIP HOP RISING
Profiles of the 90s
By Martin Pearson & Deverill Weekes
Step into the golden era of hip hop with Hip Hop Rising: Profiles of the 90s—a powerful visual and editorial tribute to the artists who shaped a generation.
Today Was a Good Day
This recent release combines stunning photography and raw, unfiltered interviews with the legends of 90s rap, offering an intimate look at the genre’s meteoric rise from underground movement to global force.
The Group's Name: Martin Pearson and Deverill Weekes
The book features rare snapshots and original interviews with (GOAT) artists like Ice T, Queen Latifah, Wu-Tang Clan, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, and Eazy-E—capturing them at the dawn of their careers, when hip hop was still rewriting the rules.
A Look Behind the Lens of a Cultural Revolution
Whether it’s Ice T reacting to breaking news about the OJ Simpson case, or Ice Cube confronting censors and critics, every page delivers an unforgettable moment in time. From the coasts of the U.S. to the expanding global rap scene, Hip Hop Rising is more than nostalgia—it’s a tribute to cultural revolution, artistic ambition, and the legacy of a movement that continues to shape the world.

VIVA LA SEA SAFARI GUIDES: TAYLOR & JOEY
Captain Funzo & The Dolphin Boat
Venice doesn’t care about polish. It cares about passion. And few people live that out like Taylor Collins — better known around here as Captain Funzo (@captainfunzo).
Raised by professional water skiers and raised on the water, Taylor never really had a chance at a normal life — thank god. ;)
She’s been orbiting the sun and this beach town for nearly two decades, dodging adulthood and chasing adventure with a sailor’s grin and wind-battered hair.
At some point along the shoreline, she met Joey — a Catalina harbor patrolman turned unlikely soulmate — and what started as a love story turned into something even weirder: they built a boat.
What’s This All A-BOAT?
The Dolphin Boat.
Born from seven chaotic months in a boatyard — full of sanding, shouting, dreaming, and duct tape — it became a vessel for something better than perfection: joy.
Now, they take people out into the Santa Monica Bay in search of dolphins, sea lions, and those unspoken moments when you remember that everything’s still alright — even if it’s wild, loud, and slightly off course.
Step Aboard.
Less than a year in, they’ve hosted hundreds of people. Tourists. Neighbors. Kids who’ve never seen the ocean. And every ride is a little reminder: the ocean doesn’t need to be fancy to blow your mind.
Neither does Venice. Neither do WE.
Taylor and Joey — like so many of the locals we love — didn’t wait for things to be perfect. They just launched.
You can find them at TheDolphinBoat.com or on Instagram @thedolphinboatla.

VIVA LA X VIVA LA VENICE
Today we celebrate 120 years of Venice — the art, the edge, the energy.
JUNTOS. TOGETHER.
In partnership with VIVA LA, we honored the heartbeat of the Westside through color, culture, and community.
WE HAD SOME FUN.
Under the boardwalk, and through the boulevards.
